Sometimes when you work, you find that a piece “speaks” to you, beyond your plans and hopes for it. This piece did just that for me. My initial intention was for it to be completely encrusted with findings, vintage costume jewelry, shells, multi-colored crystals and various flotsam. After the stunning color dried however, I just couldn’t cover it up. The was something soothing and calm, yet glamorous about it. After trying various combinations of fittings, the only ones that worked were the simplest flower forms, with dangling crystal spheres, the same shapes repeated in an asymmetrical rhythm. Despite my ideas, and no matter how much I tried, the piece quietly said, “that’s enough”. In the end, I had to listen.
